What is the ordinary wage?
Wages paid regularly and uniformly for scheduled work. It's the basis for overtime, night and holiday pay, unused leave pay, dismissal notice pay, maternity leave pay and more.
What changed with the 2024 Supreme Court ruling
In December 2024, the Supreme Court en banc ruled that regular bonuses conditioned on "being employed or working a minimum number of days" are also part of the ordinary wage (dropping the fixedness requirement). As a result, more companies split regular bonuses into monthly amounts in the ordinary wage.
How it's calculated
- Monthly ordinary wage = base pay + fixed allowances + (annual regular bonus ÷ 12)
- Ordinary hourly wage = monthly ordinary wage ÷ monthly scheduled hours (209 hours for a 40-hour week)
- Daily ordinary wage = ordinary hourly wage × daily scheduled hours
