What is juhyu-sudang?
Under the Labor Standards Act, a worker who works at least 15 hours a week and shows up on every scheduled day is entitled to one paid day off per week. For hourly workers this is paid as the weekly holiday allowance: (weekly hours ÷ 40) × 8 hours × hourly wage, capped at 8 hours.
It applies to foreign workers and international students with valid work permission exactly as to Korean workers. If your employer advertises "₩10,320 per hour" for a 20-hour week, your effective pay including the allowance is about ₩12,384 per hour.
Unpaid allowances can be reported to the Ministry of Employment and Labor (call 1350, English available).
Rates and thresholds follow Korean rules in force for 2026. Results are estimates for planning, not legal or tax advice.
