How work hours are calculated

Work hours = clock-out time − clock-in time − breaks. Shifts ending after midnight are calculated automatically.

Legal break time

Under the Labor Standards Act, breaks of at least 30 minutes for 4 hours of work and 1 hour for 8 hours must be given. Breaks don't count as working hours.

Overtime & night work

  • Overtime: work beyond 8 hours a day or 40 hours a week. Workplaces with 5+ employees add 50% of the ordinary wage.
  • Night work: work from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next day. 50% premium (workplaces with 5+ employees).
  • The maximum workweek is 52 hours (40 regular + 12 overtime).

FAQ

Is lunchtime working time?

If it's a break you can use freely, it's excluded from working hours. If you're on standby, like phone duty, it may count as working time.
