Writing a Korean address in English
Korean addresses go from largest to smallest unit, while English forms expect the opposite. A typical apartment address in English reads: 101-dong 1203-ho, 152 Teheran-ro, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, 06236, Republic of Korea. Couriers in Korea read the 5-digit postal code and the road name first, so make sure both are correct.
- Address Line 1: building number + road name (e.g. 152 Teheran-ro)
- Address Line 2: dong/ho and district (gu)
- City: Seoul, Busan… or the city name in a province
- State/Province: e.g. Gyeonggi-do; for Seoul just repeat Seoul
The search uses the official Korea Post / Kakao postcode service, which returns the government romanization.
