How characters are counted
Cover letters and assignments have different length rules depending on where you submit. Most use with spaces, but some companies use without spaces or bytes. Always check the instructions on the form.
How bytes are counted
- UTF-8: 1 Korean character = 3 bytes; Latin letters, numbers and spaces = 1 byte. Most website input fields use this.
- EUC-KR: 1 Korean character = 2 bytes; Latin letters and numbers = 1 byte. Used by older recruiting systems and text messages (SMS 90 bytes).
Manuscript pages
Based on 200-character manuscript paper: characters including spaces divided by 200. Real manuscript paper comes out a little more because of paragraph indents and line breaks.
What you enter is counted only in your browser and never sent to a server.
