How typing speed is counted

Korean typing speed is the number of keys pressed per minute. For example, "한" takes ㅎ·ㅏ·ㄴ, three strokes, and the diphthong "와" takes ㅇ·ㅗ·ㅏ, also three. This test splits what you type into jamo to count strokes.

What's the average speed?

  • Under 200: beginner
  • 200–350: average user
  • 350–500: fast (top office workers)
  • 500+: very fast (stenographer level)

English WPM

English is measured in WPM (words per minute), counting 5 characters (incl. spaces) as one word. The average is about 40 WPM.

How to get faster

Improve accuracy before speed. The most important habit is keeping your hands on the home row without looking at the keys.
