Seizure exemption rules changed from February 2026

  • In principle, half of your pay is exempt from seizure
  • But pay of ₩2.5M a month or less (previously ₩1.85M) is fully exempt
  • If half your pay exceeds ₩3M: exempt amount = ₩3M + (half of pay − ₩3M) ÷ 2

Living expense account

From February 2026 you can open one living expense account per person. Deposits in it are protected from seizure up to ₩2.5M a month. An existing account that's already been seized doesn't automatically become one — you need to open a new one.

If your account has already been seized

If the seized money is essential for living, you can apply to the court for a change in the scope of exempt claims to have it released. The Korea Legal Aid Corporation can help for free.
